Amid the ongoing conflict, Palestine has petitioned the United Nations, demanding that Israel leave its territory.

The Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, Abdallah Shawesh, said this at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

On October 7, the Palestinian militant group, Hamas, attacked Israel in a shocking move. Over 1,500 people have been confirmed dead in the conflict with fears that the death toll could increase.

Israel ordered a siege on the Gaza Strip cutting off electricity, water, food and fuel.

In a press conference on Tuesday, the Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, Abdallah Shawesh, called on the UN to apply international law on Israel and compel her to seize its occupation of Palestinian territories.

Shawesh stated that “the applicability of the law will bring a halt to the conflict; otherwise, the Palestinians will continue to exercise what he describes as their legitimate right to liberate and defend themselves.”

He also called on the international community to stop treating Israel as a nation above the law, calling for fair treatment of all parties.

On whether the Palestinian government is in support of the Hamas group, Shawesh said the group was not a terrorist organisation but fighting the cause of the people to liberate their land from Israeli occupation.
