Oyo APC Primary Marred By Unruly Crowd, Exercise Postponed

It was like a waiting game endlessly at the Liberty stadium Ibadan on Thursday 26th May 2022 when the much orchestrated and highly anticipated primaries of the All Progressive Congress (APC) did not hold.

As at 630 pm, when Newspot.ng left the venue, It was clear that no primary election would hold but from the grapevine the primary had been rescheduled for tomorrow. The organisers are mindful of INEC rules.

Tension mounted with the arrivals of the main contenders especially, Mr Adebayo Adelabu and Senator Teslim Folarin. At a point, crowd control became so hectic with law enforcement agencies left with no option than to fire teargas to disperse the Surging crowd, especially with the arrival of Senator Teslim Folarin.

Signs that the election may not hold began manifesting when the contenders started prevailing on their supporters, especially delegates to leave the main bowl of the stadium for proper accreditation to take place. All the entreaties fell on deaf hears as no one was willing to leave.

However, it was only when the aspirants began to leave the venue one after the other that it dawn on people that the election might not hold eventually.

With the prolonged meeting at the Premier Hotel, coupled with the inability of the election to hold, there were unconfirmed speculation that the party might opt for consensus.

In the midst of all these, some supporters of the aspirants who spoke with Newspot.ng were optimistic of their principals winning the election.

Mr Olubiyo Festus,an ECOWAS youth ambassador had high hope that Mr Adelabu will win,while Mr Kazeem Ayandele queued behind Senator Teslim Folarin.
