Residents of Owerri, Imo State capital especially those around Umuoba Uratta in Owerri North LGA have called on the Governor Hope Uzodinma to come to their aid over failed major road that connects the area.

The residents have complained that they are enduring untold hardship and huge economic loss owing to the dilapidated nature of MCC Road and other link roads in the area.

Newspot after visiting Umuoba end of the road leading to Toronto junction of the MCC/Uratta road on Sunday observed that the road was almost cut off.

Speaking on the situation, a resident, Mr Samuel Orji, said their woes were worsened whenever it rains as many of them have bought rubber boots to swim their way through the stagnant pool of water on the road.

Orji said the road construction company after excavating the earth sand on the road left the residents and commuters with much to desire.

He pleaded with the State government to order the constructors to go back to site even if it’s to do a palliative work on the road.

He said, “The situation has affected many of us, including landlords, shop owners and motorists. We have called on Owerri North local government and the state government, and nothing has been done,” he averred.

Also speaking, a woman leader of the community, Chidinma Ajaero, said the gridlock caused by the road had led to the death of many residents during emergencies.

She said,” As we are in rainy season, businesses are closing everyday. How long shall our people continue to suffer?”

She called for a quick palliative measure on the road pending when the comprehensive repair would be done.
