In his usual and characteristic amiable nature, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr) Frederick Adegunle Aroloye, Arubiefin IV, (JP) OFR, Owa of Idanre Kingdom and Paramount ruler of Idanre Land recently received and “lectured” the students of Department of History from Adeyemi University of Education, Ondo City, Ondo State in his Odode Idanre palace.
Oba Aroloye, whose consent had earlier been sought and obtained by the leader of the group, Mr. Pelumi Benjamin, painstakingly took the enthusiastic learners on centuries old voyage into the past.
Inquisitive questions bordering on formation of Idanre nation, its journey uphill Oke Idanre Hilltop, reason for choosing the site then, its justice system, hierarchy of udan-e leadership, palace administration and of course, the relationship between the kingdom and its neighbours as well as other Yoruba kingdoms came into fore and “disected” to the admirations of the students who were thirty in number.
The educational parley saw “Associate Lecturer” Chief Bello Ilemobola, the Adaja of Idanre Kingdom chipping in ideas and contributing and Agbelusi Ganiyu, Owa’s Personal Secretary and Media Officer moderated and was later commissioned by Owa to take the educational visitors and tourists round to see some parts of the palace.
The visit ended with the students and their lecturers admiring Idanre the more than hithertofore, taking pictures with Oba Aroloye and later after the tour round with Agbelusi Ganiyu, Owa’s Personal Secretary/Media Officer who had on lighter mood encouraged the ladies of pleasant and blissful marital time loading for them if they answer “yes” to proposals from Idanre suitors. He won their laughter to douse the tense academic atmosphere which saw the learners scribbling and recording life and direct the educational session.
Meanwhile, Mr. Pelumi Benjamin, who led the trip with Ms Obalola Olamide, incidentally an Idanre in law had in a message sent to me, appreciated what he referred to as “warm reception” given to him as he acknowledged that, “Idanre is indeed a ‘city of heroes on the hill'”.
He noted that, ” Its transition from being a rustic settlement of migrants in the early years to a modern kingdom of great tourism potentials has been phenomenal” He summarized by noting that the people of Idanre are very accommodating and lovers of great things”
