Over 50 gunmen invade govt offices in Nasarawa, cart away weapon, other valuables

Unknown gunmen have attacked Nasarawa State Local Government Civil Service Commission and took away one G3 rifle from an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps before gaining access into the offices and carting away other valuables.

Newspot gathered that the incident occured on Monday when the assailants numbering about fifty, invaded the premises.

It was learnt that the armed men overpowered the security personnel on duty post at the commission’s office located along Makurdi road, Lafia the state capital.

When contacted by Newspot on Wednesday, the spokesman of the state’s police command, ASP Ramhan Nansel confirmed the incident.

The PPRO was unable to give details of the incident, saying it was only reported to the command of the NSCDC

“Their men were on duty there when the incident happened and the incident was not reported to the Police, we only heard/saw it on news too,” he said.

Efforts by our correspondent to reach the Public Relations Officer of the NSDC, Mr Jerry Victor, proved abortive as at press time.

Newspot reports that the development is coming barely three months after armed robbers invaded the state Ministry of Finance, Budget and Planning in Lafia, and catered away millions of Naira.
