…..Funds to Go into Mission Field Advocacy and Church Planting
For 25 years, the Most Revd. Joseph Akinfenwa, Ph.D., Diocesan of Ibadan Diocese of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), has consistently delivered classical, academically rich, and ever-refreshing Bishop’s Charges at the yearly Synod of the Diocese.
Worthy of note is that each of these Charges qualifies as a Ph.D. thesis, and the delivery makes it even more profound.
Akinfenwa is an enigmatic and talented priest — a rare breed within the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion).
No wonder, at the end of this year’s two-hour and fifteen-minute reading of the Charge, support for the launch — specifically meant for mission field evangelization and the planting of churches — came like a deluge. In just one hour, over ₦40 million had been raised.
This year’s Synod, held at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Nalende, Ibadan, under the leadership of spiritually blessed Venerable Lolu Akinyinka was particularly significant, as the Diocesan, in his words, said it was time to start talking about the countdown. By this time next year, Bishop Akinfenwa would be approaching the end of his 26th year of Episcopacy in the Diocese.
He summed it up:
“We give thanks to God for all that He has enabled us to accomplish with your support. We are grateful to you for the sustained enthusiasm with which you co-operated with us to redouble efforts as we approach the end of this Episcopacy.”
He was not done yet, as he continued:
“For us, we do not wish to wind down; rather, we desire God’s grace to run towards the finish line like an athlete who desires earnestly to breast the winner’s tape. We testify that in the outgone year, God supplied this grace.”
As he looks forward to his retirement, he also prayerfully wishes for a worthy successor:
“Today, we reiterated our desire and prayer, which is that all these milestones which we have attained together since the turn of the century shall become a springboard (or a starting point) for a new era of greater kingdom accomplishments in Ibadan Diocese under a great leader. We believe that God will do this for Ibadan Diocese; please pray along.”
