The National Association Of University Students, Osun Campus Monitoring Committee, has urged the incoming governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, to prioritise the welfare of students.
NAUS, in a statement made available to our correspondent on Wednesday, signed by its chairperson, deputy chairperson and secretary-general; Eruobami Ayobami, Omowumi Oyedele and Olaniyan Saleem, respectively, asked Adeleke to include students in the decision-making system of the state.
“The inauguration of the newly elected governor and his deputy, Senator Ademola Adeleke and Prince Kola Adewusi, is in few days time and every citizen of the state is in anticipation of the coming transition.
“It is important we note that as students, we hold a particular percentage of the state population and as such, contribute to the growth and development of the state’s economy. It is also important we reiterate that we are a major stakeholder in decision-making because policies made by the state government will affect the entire students.
“We write to charge Senator Ademola Adeleke and his deputy to always prioritise the interest of Nigerian university students and as well work on measures and mechanisms to involve students in the decision-making that affects the entire citizens of our dear state.
“We’re confident of Adeleke’s interest in education and student welfarism, and we implore you (Adeleke) to uphold that interest,” the statement read partly.
