Osogbo, 19th March 2025 – A bipartisan coalition known as the Osun Leaders of Thought has expressed its commendation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his recent decision to reject calls for a state of emergency in Osun State. The group praised the President for his statesmanship and commitment to upholding the rule of law amidst growing pressures.
In a statement released following an emergency leadership meeting in Osogbo, the coalition, consisting of prominent figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC), and other political entities, highlighted Tinubu’s ability to transcend narrow political interests. They emphasized the importance of prioritizing constitutional integrity and the larger interests of the Yoruba nation.
The group condemned individuals advocating for a state of emergency, labeling them as “closet enemies” of the President. They argued that these figures fail to recognize the broader objective of strengthening the President’s position as he navigates various national challenges.
Signed by Elder Adelola Ogunlola and Chief Elumide Ajayi, the statement noted that the 41-member coalition perceives the current national situation as both dynamic and sensitive. They expressed their unwavering support for the President, urging him to remain steadfast and to disregard the concerns of paranoid politicians driven by personal ambitions.
The Osun Leaders of Thought underscored the significance of maintaining peace and the rule of law in Osun State, which they regard as the cradle of the Yoruba nation. They warned against allowing the state to descend into conflict over matters currently under judicial consideration.
In addition to supporting President Tinubu, the group praised Governor Ademola Adeleke for his mature handling of the local government crisis, recognizing his respect for the Presidency and the rule of law. They encouraged the governor to pay a courtesy visit to President Tinubu to discuss developments in Osun State, suggesting this would foster collaboration and strengthen bipartisan efforts.
“Our group was established in early January with the aim of uniting key leaders for a bipartisan agenda focused on the future. We support both President Tinubu and Governor Adeleke for re-election in 2026 and 2027. Regardless of how we are labeled, our commitment lies in ensuring continuity at both state and federal levels,” the statement read.
The coalition plans to send an official letter to President Tinubu, affirming the support of the Osun people and commending his prudent handling of the state’s political climate. They acknowledged the significant pressure he faced from certain factions within the APC but expressed relief that reason prevailed in his decision-making.
“We are pleased that Mr. President listened to the voice of reason, opting for peace over conflict,” the group concluded.
