An Ede-based organisation, Makuarogun Alliance has raised alarm against alleged plans to have Rasheed Hammed, aka Rasheed Okoilu.
It warned that releasing a criminal wanted by the police, arrested after a gun duel, would not only compromise the integrity of the law enforcement agencies, but also make the government and the police complicit in the documented crimes committed by the suspect.
Recall that Rasheed Okoilu was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police, Osun State Command in Ede on Saturday night.
The Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola confirmed that the wanted cultist was in its net.
The group also expressed shock at the silence of the police and the State government after the arson attack on the family of the Osun State House of Assembly Minority Leader, Babajide Kofoworola, on Friday in Ede.
While accusing the State governor, Adegboyega Oyetola of harbouring Tunde Elemo, who allegedly led the arson attack within the Government House, the group also claimed that a directive had been issued that nothing should happen to Elemo.
According to the statement, “Any attempt to release a murder suspect who also openly attempted to assassinate our King will be resisted by people of Ede. This is not about politics. It is about our town and the security of lives and properties.
”We are aware Okoilu was always in the Governor’s convoy even after he was declared wanted. We know he followed the Governor to the BBC debate. We know APC leaders harbour and use him. We are shocked that the Governor is also harbouring Tunde Elemo who attacked the House Minority leader’s father whose whereabouts is still unknown.
”It is surprising that up till now, the police have not issued any statement on the incident. The Governor has not deemed it fit to intervene so that the legislator’s father can be rescued. Worst still, Elemo, the main suspect, is allegedly relaxing under the Governor’s care.”
