Okada Riders to Pay ₦100 Daily, Tricycle Operators ₦200
OSOGBO – In a strategic move to eliminate ticketing-related extortion and revenue leakages, the Osun State Government has rolled out a unified daily ticketing system for commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators across the state.
The initiative was announced following a crucial dialogue between the state government and commercial transportation stakeholders, presided over by the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Sesan Oyedele, at the State Secretariat in Osogbo.
According to Hon. Oyedele, the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration is determined to enhance the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) without placing undue burden on transport operators or allowing illegal actors to exploit them. “We will not fold our arms and watch people get extorted under any guise,” the Commissioner said.
He emphasized that the unified ticketing system was designed not just for administrative efficiency, but also to protect transport workers from harassment and favoritism. Going forward, commercial motorcycle (Okada) riders will pay ₦100 per day, while tricycle (Marwa) operators will pay ₦200 per day. These payments, he stated, are final and inclusive of all fees, ensuring no operator is made to pay more than required.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of the Okada Riders Association in Osun State, Comrade Sikiru Ayobami (popularly known as Ado-Ignona), lauded the state government’s intervention. He pledged the association’s full cooperation and assured that the leadership would promote fairness, unity, and discipline among its members.
Present at the meeting were top officials of the Ministry of Transportation, including Permanent Secretary Mr. Isiaka Yahaya and Director of Transport Operations Engr. Ayodeji Oyewole, among others.
This policy is expected to significantly streamline Osun’s transportation sector while fostering trust and transparency between the government and transport unions.
Newspot Nigeria will continue to monitor implementation outcomes and report citizen feedback across Osun’s major transportation hubs.
