One person has been confirmed killed and many missing as suspected armed herdsmen in the late hours of Wednesday, attacked EdikwuG’icho in Apa LGA of Benue State.
Confirming the attack through a telephone conversation, an indigene of the community, Hon Gowon Atungwu, told Newspot that, it was a brazenly attack carried out by Fulani herdsmen this evening.
“The attackers invaded our village this evening at about 6pm, shooting sporadically. Our youths rose up to the occasion by swiftly confronting and repelling them. While they were running back to the bush, they met one of our boys, Oyigocho Onehi and hacked him to death. Some of our people who went to farm as still missing,” Gowon said.
Corroborating the story through a phone call, another indigene of the community, Mr Ajene Adole, said many would have been killed if not the display of rare gallantry by their youths, decrying the relentless attacks on their community.
Attacks and Killings in Apa and neighbouring Agatu communities by suspected fulani herdsmen have heightened recently and are almost becoming daily affairs.
