The Vice-Chancellor of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, OAUSTECH, Okitipupa, Ondo State, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, has appealed to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to release funds for the completion of abandoned projects dotting various parts of the institution.
While also urging Aiyedatiwa to establish the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, like the Federal Government, Ologunorisa disclosed that the move will in no small measure help to harness the state’s vast coastal resources.
The Vice-Chancellor made the appeal during an oversight visit of the State House of Assembly Committee on Tertiary Institutions to the institution.
Ologunorisa, who emphasised the need for more infrastructure to accommodate the increasing student population in the institution, revealed that OAUSTECH had become one of the preferred institutions for admission seekers in the country.
He urged the committee to appeal to the governor to ensure the speedy completion of the Maritime Academy being constructed at Ugbo-Nla by the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, OSOPADEC.
The Vice-Chancellor, who hailed the governor for prompt payment of monthly subvention and the wage award to the institution, requested the release of the N1 billion allocated in the 2024 budget to complete the School of Science Building, which had been abandoned for years.
He equally urged Aiyedatiwa to intervene in the NDDC and OSOPADEC abandoned projects and ensure the contractor handling the 2.5 km road construction returns to site.
On his part, the committee chairman, Chris Ayebusiwa, commended Ologunorisa for his strides in the university and assured that decisive actions would be taken to complete the OSOPADEC and NDDC projects, with another member of the committee, Messiah Oluwatoyin, promising to urge Aiyedatiwa to ensure OSOPADEC completes the Maritime Academy at Ugbo Nla.
