A floating village for athletes in Tahiti has been transformed into a party boat by a number of surfers taking part in this summer’s Olympic Games.
Every Olympic event is being held in France, except for surfing, creating a unique quirk for a handful of competitors.
Instead of staying at the Olympic village in Paris on the ‘anti-sex’ cardboard beds’, surfers are 9,765 miles away on the island of Tahiti in French Polynesia.
This year’s competition was moved to the iconic Teahupo’o due to summer swells in France falling way below Olympic standards.
It means 28 athletes are being housed on a cruise ship in the South Pacific Ocean, complete with stunning views.
And it seems Team Germany in particular are making the most of their scenic surroundings by cranking up the volume on the tunes and having a boogie.
Videos showing what’s happening on board the first ever floating Olympic village have been going viral on social media.
Tim Elter and Camilla Kemp filmed themselves dancing to music at an ‘Olympic party’ with the caption: ‘Excitement through the roof.’
New Zealand’s Saffi Vette also joined in the fun by sharing a video of Elter and Kemp dangling a speaker next to her balcony with music blaring out.
‘Vibes are high here on our floating Olympic village,’ she said on TikTok.
She wrote in the clip: ‘When the Germans are staying above you in the Olympic village… They attached a speaker to a leg rope and swung it over your balconies.’
Another video shared by Elter showed him swinging the speaker round in circles as Kemp dances and laughs to
‘That escalated quick,’ they joked, as the video also showed the German and New Zealand flags side-by-side with the words: ‘Zero f**** given.’
Many were quick to joke about how much better the floating Olympic village looks than the main one in Paris.
One wrote: ‘I would definitely prefer the cruise ship vibe for Olympic village than the cardboard beds.’
Meanwhile, another said: ‘The floating Olympic village is a whole vibe.’
‘The Olympic boat people definitely won best accommodations and view,’ added another.
It’s not known how every other nation’s surfing team feel about the party which broke out on the boat…
