Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims Manchester United are at a disadvantage in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final clash against Chelsea because the Blues have an extra 48 hours’ rest compared to his side.

United take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Thursday before taking on Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday.

However, Chelsea will have an extra two days of rest having beaten relegated Norwich 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

United need to beat Palace to keep up thier chances of finishing in the top four and Solskjaer can therefore not risk resting some of his bigger players.

And the Norwegian is far from happy with the Premier League’s scheduling, describing Chelsea’s extra rest as ‘not fair’.

Our lads have not felt as fit as this for years, I’m sure. There are some young lads there who will be fitter than the average Joe and quicker to recover.

‘There is a concern, obviously, that they [Chelsea] will have had 48 hours more rest and recovery than us [before Sunday]. It’s not fair,’ said Solskjaer.
‘We spoke about a fair scheduling going into this restart and of course it isn’t, I have to think about Thursday, winning that one, focusing on that one, and then pick up the pieces after that’

Solskjaer has placed great emphasis on his side’s fitness since taking over at Old Trafford and regardless of results, he demands that no side outruns his own team.

The Norwegian says that philosophy has stood United in good stead going into such a congested fixture list.

‘The way the coaches and fitness staff worked them over the lockdown and even throughout the whole season – it was a big thing towards the end of last season that we felt our team wasn’t fit enough,’ said Solskjaer.

‘We’ve not been handed four Aces, to put it that way, for the last two weeks. But we’re going to have to put on a Poker face and play the cards well.’
