An activist lawyer, Madubuachi Idam, has faulted the decision of the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to revert to the old national anthem written by “a white-woman.”

Idam said Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka should feel humiliated that he was not considered competent to compose a new national anthem.

Last week Wednesday, Newspot reported that Tinubu signed the National Anthem Bill 2024, into law.

The old national anthem, “Nigeria we hail thee” was reintroduced with the assent of the president.

Mixed reactions have continued to trail the decision of Mr President to assent to the bill at a time when Nigerians are experiencing hardship.

However, the Abuja-based lawyer said the reintroduction of the old national anthem showed that Nigerian politicians are too lazy to think.

Chatting with Newspot, Idam: “The name ‘Nigeria’ was given by a White-woman. Nigeria now uses an ‘Anthem’ written by a White-woman too.

“I hope you all can now understand that the Nigeria’s political class are either lazy to think or does not trust their thoughts (I’m unsure which is really their problem).

“If not, why would the National Assembly not draft Anthem for Nigeria or patronize local writers if there is really need for a new Anthem?

“Why go for one written by a colonial woman?

“There are too many Pen-Happy Nigerians who would write a better Anthem for Nigeria if consulted.

“Prof. Soyinka should feel humiliated that he was not considered competent enough to draft an Anthem for Nigeria even with a Noble price award in literature.

“A woman who seeks divorce is not aroused by the nakedness of her husband, else she will get pregnant while processing her divorce.

“I thought Nigerians resisted colonialism, why keep going back to their shadows? A local writer would have written a better Anthem for Nigeria.”
