A chieftain of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Chuks Ibegbu has rejected the outcome of Ohanaeze Ndigbo election held in Enugu on Friday.
Ibegbu, who was a Deputy President General candidate, described the exercise as an imposition and naked robbery.
Newspot reports that before the election, the organisers announced the suspension of the Ohanaeze constitution to pave the way for a consensus arrangement.
A list said to have been approved by the governors was then announced as the new Ohanaeze executive members.
However, speaking to journalists after the exercise, enraged Ibegbu vowed to challenge the outcome in court.
He said it was unacceptable that after paying N400,000 to purchase form, the candidates were sidelined.
“I was given impression that I was coming to contest election.
“I bought form, N400,000, only for me to come here and they started carrying some names around
“There were delegates, but they did not vote. On what basis did they arrive at the names they announced?” He queried.
Ibegwu, who was once a national publicity secretary of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation demanded a refund of the money he paid.
“Go ahead and tell the world that this is what I said.
“I didn’t say there should be no consensus, but you should inform me before buying the form, not after I have spent money, perfectly screened, then you excluded me. Give me back my money.
“This is not what Ndigbo are known for; even if you have preferred candidates, allow us to go and test our popularity. Surprisingly, there was no election.
“This is imposition and naked robbery, and it will not go unpublished. We shall meet in court.
“Some of us have made several sacrifices because of Ohanaeze. My house in Enugu was burnt down because of Ohanaeze, because of Igbo course, so we will challenge this impunity,” he declared.
