To maintain sanity on the road and avoid unnecessary crashes and holdups, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, has begun clampdown on indiscriminate parking and obstruction on roads.
The exercise embarked on by the agency’s task force team in Abeokuta Area Command, was to enforce rules and regulations against indiscriminate parking, obstruction, and driving against traffic in major parts of the state such as Kuto, Iyana Mortuary and Kemta axis.
According to the team lead, Abeokuta area commander, Dr Olubori Sonde, the team was mandated to carry out enforcement against indiscriminate parking, causing obstruction on public roads by vehicle owners, as well as drivers driving in directions prohibited by the Road Traffic Laws.
He said the enforcement was carried out after series of enlightenment and awareness programmes to educate vehicle owners at various locations and routes in the state capital, stressing that the enforcement strategies would be intensified and done at designated locations.
Sonde reiterated that the operatives would not allow recklessness on the road, warning erring drivers to abide by Road Traffic Laws, to make the roads safer for users.
He enjoined all road users to be law abiding and obey traffic laws as they ply the roads, saying owners of vehicles confiscated and impounded would pay a fine and will be subjected to community service, to serve as deterrent to other road users.
