Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has urged the people of Ota and Aworiland to continue reflecting on the values of unity and progress upheld by their ancestors to build a greater Ado Odo Ota, Aworiland, and Ogun State as a whole.

He assured them of further infrastructural development in Ado Odo Ota, highlighting its significance as a major industrial cluster that contributed immensely to the state’s internally generated revenue and gross domestic product.

Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, who represented Governor Abiodun, made this statement during his address at the 2024 Iganmode Day cultural festival celebration at the Nawarudeen High School Sports Pavilion, Ota. He described the cultural festival as a celebration of the identity, history, and resilience of the Awori people, whose industriousness and dedication have made Ota a cornerstone of Ogun State’s growth and development.

Governor Abiodun noted that the importance of Ota to Ogun State could not be overstated, emphasising that the presence of leading industries and thriving businesses in the region has positioned the state as Nigeria’s industrial capital.

He added that his administration recognises the prosperity of Ota as directly linked to the prosperity of Ogun State. Consequently, the government remains committed to addressing infrastructural challenges and creating an enabling environment for businesses and individuals to thrive.

“Our contributions have not only boosted the economy but also elevated the state’s reputation on both national and global stages. In addition to our economic contributions, we, the people of Ota and Ado Odo Ota Local Government, have been steadfast partners in the democratic journey of this administration. Our support in the last election played a crucial role in the victory of the All Progressives Congress.

“This partnership has provided a foundation for our administration to continue delivering good governance, and we are deeply grateful for the trust and confidence of the people of Ota,” he said.

The governor assured residents that the construction of critical roads in Ado Odo Ota remains a top priority for his administration. He acknowledged the longstanding neglect of the major Ota-Abeokuta Road, a vital corridor for trade and commerce, but emphasised that his administration has begun work on the road while actively engaging with the Federal Government and other stakeholders to ensure its complete rehabilitation.

According to him, significant progress has also been made on the Atan-Lusada-Agbara roads, with efforts aimed at improving the quality of life, fostering industrial growth, and enhancing community connectivity. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to delivering these projects to elevate the standard of living for the people of Ota.

In his remarks, the Olota of Ota, Oba Abdulkabir Obalanlege, noted that the festival has, over the years, amplified cultural consciousness while driving infrastructural development, human capacity building, and economic growth in Ota. He called on the citizens of Ota and the Aworis to remain dedicated to fostering peace, unity, and progress.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of Ado Odo Ota Local Government, Adewale Lawal, said the annual Iganmode Day is aimed not only at uniting the sons and daughters of Ota Aworiland but also at promoting its rich cultural heritage. He urged citizens to continue contributing meaningfully to the development of Ota Aworiland while promoting unity, peace, and love among one another.
