People in Wailo community, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State have commended the management and members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for conducting a free medical outreach in the community.

Speaking on behalf of the residents of the community at the flag-off of the one-day outreach on Wednesday, the village head of Wailo, Malam Iliyasu Musa, expressed gratitude to the scheme for bringing the medical outreach to their domain.

Musa noted that despite playing host to the permanent orientation camp of the NYSC in the state, this is the first time the people of the community will be benefitting from such a programme, which he said would significantly address the health challenges of the people.

He said, “I would like to appreciate the coming of this programme into our community because this is the first time I will be seeing the management of the NYSC in our community with this kind of lifesaving programme.

“We appreciate it because this NYSC (orientation camp) has been here for over 20 years but nothing like this has been done for the community as its host community.

“But the state coordinator has brought this intervention here today and you are highly appreciated.”

In his remarks at the event, the member representing Ganjuwa East in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Dayyabu Ladan, expressed delight that the NYSC brought help to the community.

The lawmaker said the medical intervention programme would go a long way in assisting people from villages in the area in accessing healthcare services to which they may not have had access.

In her speech, the state coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Yakubu, explained that the outreach was initiated under the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD), saying it was designed to enhance access to quality healthcare service delivery in hard-to-reach and rural communities across the country.

She urged residents to seize the opportunity provided by the medical outreach to access treatment, “We urge all members of this community to avail themselves in order to benefit.”
