NUJ decries persistent inflation, demands payment of October salaries for Radio Nigeria staff

The National Executive Council NEC, of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, has expressed worry over the persistent rise in inflation and prolonged economic downturn.

In a communique issued by the National President, Dr Chris Isiguzo and signed by, Abubakar Musa Waziri National Ex-Officio Zone E, Princess Ronke Samo VP Zone B and Mary Domtur, Secretary Plateau Council, NEC on Monday, urged the Federal Government to adopt more realistic measures to address the ugly situation that has brought untold hardship on the people.

The body also criticized the failure of the federal government to pay the October salary of some federal workers including Radio Nigeria, describing such development as unacceptable considering the effect on the workers who are already been dealt with by the harsh economy.

NEC further condoled with the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Nigerian Army on the demise of the Chief of Army Staff, the late General Taoreed Lagbaja and prayed God to grant his soul eternal rest.

Ahead of the election, the union approved the 16th November date for the conduct of the Benue council election which will formally end the protracted crisis in the council

The council also cautioned candidates for the forthcoming election and their supporters against the campaign of calumny and unnecessary attacks on the leadership of the union.

The Council also passed a vote of confidence on the Michael Ikeogwu-led National Credentials Committee for following due process in the discharge of its responsibilities as well as upholding the standards of the NUJ Constitution without prejudice.

It also ratified the final delegates lists of councils ahead of the Triennial Delegate Conference in Owerri, Imo State.
