Novak Djokovic has sealed his spot in the fourth round of Wimbledon with a 6-3 6-1 7-6 victory over Stan Wawrinka on Friday.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion will next face 17th-seed Hubert Hurkacz in the last 16 as he looks to lift his fifth Wimbledon trophy in a row.

Djokovic surpassed Rafael Nadal for the most major men’s singles titles in history last month and is the heavy favourite to win Wimbledon again this year.

Another triumph in SW19 would see Djokovic equal Roger Federer on eight Wimbledon men’s singles titles – the current record.

It has been a decade to the day that Djokovic last lost a match on Centre Court, coming in the 2013 final against Andy Murray, and he started his clash against Wawrinka with a comfortable hold of serve.

Djokovic then wasted three break points as Wawrinka managed to hold from 40-love down in his first service game but the seven-time Wimbledon champion secured the opening break in game six to take a 4-2 lead as the Swiss veteran swept a forehand wide, enough for the Serbian to take the first set 6-3.

Djokovic, 36, then made a blistering start to the second set, conjuring up a double break and producing two holds to open up a whopping 4-0 lead – and despite Wawrinka winning the following service game – Djokovic broke him again to go 6-3 6-1 up.

Wawrinka put up more of a fight in the third set but Djokovic came out on top in the tie-break 7-6 (7-5) to make it game, set and match.

Meanwhile, world No.1 Carlos Alcaraz is already dreaming of a Wimbledon final against Djokovic.

The 20-year-old will next play 25th-seed Nicolas Jarry in the third round and has looked ruthless in his first two matches against unseeded French players Alexandre Muller and Jeremy Chardy – beating both of them in straight sets.
