The lawyer, in a petition written through C.K. Mgbekeonye and Shekinah Chambers stated that since representing the broadcaster on October 23 ,2024 at a Magistrate Court sitting in Owerri over charges of conspiracy, treason, arson against him by the state police command that he has been receiving calls from strange people.
Mgbekeonye hinted that after appearing for the defendant he started receiving calls from strange people with hidden phone numbers warning him not to continue with the case or have himself to blame.
He further stated in the petition that the unknown callers, as if they are not done with the threat, accosted him while returning from office along Toronto-MCC Road Owerri on Saturday October 26 with a black Toyota Hilux tinted glass, that on sensing possible danger he veered into the Toronto Police Divisional Headquarters for safety.
“The assailants, having discovered their failure to have me eliminated, brazenly called me again with still unknown number and threatened me to withdraw my legal representation for Uba.
“I’m a legal practitioner discharging my professional duties within the bound of the law and as such, should not be subjected to any form of inhuman treatment or threat to life in the course of discharging my professional duty,” Mgbekeonye stated.
