The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Ondo Central Senatorial District, Chief Ifedayo Adedipe, and his counterpart for Akure South/North Federal Constituency, Princess Kemisola Adesanya, on Sunday distanced themselves from the purported support for Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Akure, the Ondo State capital, was at the weekend flooded with campaign posters of Tinubu which had photographs of Adedipe and Adesanya, insinuating that the PDP candidates have endorsed the APC presidential candidate.
At a press briefing to dismiss the ploy, both candidates described the campaign posters as trickery and malicious.
Addressing newsmen at the PDP State Secretariat in Akure, Adedipe and Adesanya disclosed that a group of faceless individuals who tagged themselves as Akure Progressive Forum were the ones behind the “mischievous campaign posters.”
The two candidates stressed that there was no political alliance with anyone and categorically denied making any arrangements with Tinubu.
The candidates emphasised that it was a ploy to divert attention away from the party ahead of the election and declared that the PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, will win on February 25.
“We are here to further respond to posters pasted within Akure metropolis displaying our pictures with those of the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, purportedly designed and pasted by a group of people called Akure Progressive Forum. We will like to say with emphasis that this group is unknown to us.
“We are candidates for the Peoples Democratic Party and have no connection whatsoever with the said group.”
“Although we welcome support from members of other political parties who believe in our personalities and ability to represent them well at the National Assembly, our belief in and support for our great party and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is total, unalloyed, and unflinching,” they stated.
