The National Labour Congress has revealed plans to meet over the recent 45 percent increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
This comes as it asked the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to reverse the N855 and N897 petrol pump increase on Tuesday.
The Nigeria Labour Congress disclosed this in a statement signed by its president Joe Ajaero on Tuesday in reaction to the petrol price hike.
“In the coming days, the appropriate organs of the Congress will be meeting to take appropriate decisions which will be made public,” NLC said.
NLC added that it felt betrayed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s led administration.
“But if truth be told, this act of betrayal is consistent with the character of this government”, NLC said.
Consequently, NLC said, “We demand the immediate: Reversal of the latest increase in the pump of PMS across the country”.
The Worker’s Union also demanded the release of all bad governance protesters and the reversal of the 250 percent April 2024 electricity tariff hike.
Newspot reports that NNPCL adjusted the petrol pump price by 45 percent.
The development came at the same time as the rollout of Dangote Refinery’s petrol.
In June 2024, NLC and the Trade Union Congress shut down the economy in protest against economic hardship.
