The Nigeria Mainstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has taken decisive action by shutting down seven fuel stations in Kogi State due to serious violations. The announcement was made by the NMDPRA Coordinator for Kogi, Ogbe Godwin, during a press briefing held in Lokoja on Thursday.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the closure of these stations was primarily due to under-dispensing of petroleum products. The affected fuel stations include Solag Resources Ltd. in Ankpa, Hismus Oil and Gas in Obajana, Riyenic Global Ltd. in Oke-Ibukun Kabba, S.O.T Nigeria Ltd., Omuo Kabba, Marktot Oil and Gas in Kabba, and NIPCO Filling Station.

Godwin expressed deep concern over the actions of some fuel marketers who prioritize personal gain over compliance with government regulations. He emphasized that under-dispensing is a serious offense that will not be tolerated. “As long as NMDPRA is concerned, we will not condone such an act here in Kogi,” he stated. He also warned that any marketer found guilty would face strict legal consequences.

In addition to the seven stations, NMDPRA officials conducted inspections at 50 fuel stations, leading to the sealing of another four for operating without valid licenses. The unlicensed stations include Absala Oil and Gas, Yak Ali Oil and Gas, Yamuda Nigeria Ltd., and Hanimat Nigeria Ltd., all located in Ankpa Local Government Area.

The agency is committed to taking a stronger stance against illegal operations, urging marketers to comply with regulations and register their businesses with the Federal Government. “We will no longer tolerate any marketer who is operating illegally in the state. It is better for them to go and do the needful by registering their stations with the Federal Government or the long arms of the law will catch up with them,” Godwin warned.
