A confusing scenario unfolded in Anambra State on Monday as the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, sit-at-home order coincided with the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, strike.
The result was a complete paralysis of government activities, commercial institutions, and public life.
Government offices, including the Anambra State Secretariat in Awka, were locked up, with workers unable to access their workplaces.
Courts and the State House of Assembly were also affected, with workers milling around outside.
Chairman of NLC in Anambra, Comrade Humphrey Nwafor told journalists that labour unions in the state had directed a total shutdown of activities, instructing security personnel to lock the gates of various offices in full compliance with the NLC’s directive.
Charles Adigwe, President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Anambra State chapter, confirmed that his union was participating in the strike action.
Our correspondent who monitored the strike in the state capital, Awka, reports that roads were totally devoid of motorists, just as market places that are not supposed to be affected by the strike were deserted as a result of the Monday sit-at-home exercise that have almost become a norm in the South-East.
