The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has commissioned Compressed Natural Gas, CNG buses in Rivers State, provided by the Federal Government for the benefit of workers.
Speaking during the NLC’s National Executive Council meeting in Port Harcourt, the National President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, emphasized that while the provision of CNG buses is commendable, the Federal Government must ensure the availability of the necessary infrastructure, particularly a reliable gas supply, to support the initiative.
Ajaero also praised Governor Siminalayi Fubara for implementing the ₦85,000 minimum wage.
He urged Fubara to address outstanding issues in the state, including the 11 years of unpaid allowances for demonstration schools and the need to review hazard allowances for workers.
Meanwhile, the NLC Chairman in Rivers State, Alex Agwanwor, noted that the introduction of the CNG buses would help alleviate the hardship faced by residents.
Newspot reports that a total of 60 buses have been allocated across the six geopolitical zones in the country, with 10 buses designated for each zone.
Rivers State was the first state to host the inauguration.
