In a call to action for democratic engagement, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, Chairman of the Joint Labour Movement, has stressed the significance of workers’ participation in the upcoming Local Government elections in Osun State. Highlighting the influence each worker can have on grassroots governance, Comrade Arapasopo urged all members to seize this opportunity to make their voices heard.
The statement, released to the media, encourages workers, pensioners, and the general public to partake in the elections scheduled for tomorrow. “In line with our fundamental objectives to protect, defend, and promote the rights, well-being, and interests of all workers, pensioners, trade unions, and the working class in general, we call on all our members and the good people of Osun State to actively participate in the Local Government Election scheduled to hold tomorrow,” said Comrade Arapasopo.
He further acknowledged the role of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) in organizing the elections, affirmed by a high court decision that provides robust legal and constitutional support for the proceedings.
“As a responsible Labour Movement, we believe that participation in the electoral process is crucial in fostering a just, democratic, and transparent society. Local government administration plays a vital role in grassroots development and governance, and as such, it is imperative that all eligible voters exercise their franchise to ensure effective representation at the local level,” he added.
The Labour Movement calls on all eligible voters to cast their votes peacefully and responsibly, emphasizing that each vote contributes to shaping the future of communities and ensuring good governance at the grassroots level.
Finally, Comrade Arapasopo urged all stakeholders, including OSIEC, security agencies, and political parties, to facilitate a free, fair, and credible election process that truly reflects the will of the people.
