The Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER) has awarded the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) a high rating for its exceptional organisational culture.
This recognition was announced during NISER’s recent quarterly series on Actualising Behavioural Change (ABC), held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In the previous edition of the ABC series for 2024, JAMB was highlighted as a case study during a session chaired by the esteemed accountant, Mr. Foluso Phillips, with a keynote lecture delivered by Dr. Emmanuel Imafidon from the Lagos Business School.
During his opening remarks, the session chairman commended JAMB for its exemplary performance among government agencies. He referenced NISER’s 2023 research report on “Organisational Process Mapping and Office Engagement,” conducted at JAMB’s National Headquarters in Bwari, Abuja. The report revealed that JAMB has successfully repositioned itself in terms of its behavioural organisational culture, emphasizing that its services to the nation and the host community are driven by a commitment to public good rather than personal or sectional interests.
Dr. Imafidon, in his presentation, highlighted the importance of trust in integrating professionals from diverse backgrounds within an organisation that has a clearly articulated vision and culture. He pointed out the complexities of fostering an effective organisational culture for behavioural change in the public sector, where hierarchical structures often prevail. He emphasized that leadership plays a critical role in establishing trust within an organisation’s culture.
Furthermore, Dr. Imafidon noted that organisational culture significantly influences communication and helps clarify the vision and mission from top to bottom.
One of the panelist, Prof. Oka Obono also emphasized the need for a strong focus on personnel productivity, stating that a disoriented workforce cannot achieve excellent outcomes. He remarked that JAMB’s commitment to staff motivation through improved welfare significantly enhances employees’ dedication to service delivery.
NISER researcher, Dr. Bukki Daramola, who facilitated the event, elaborated on how JAMB’s exemplary organisational culture has enabled it to navigate various challenges, including technological advancements, individual interests, bureaucratic obstacles, and socio-cultural differences.
Mrs. Catherine Temitope Akintola, the Director of the Ibadan Zonal Office, expressed her satisfaction with the thematic focus of the ABC Series for 2024, which highlighted the significant progress made by JAMB under the leadership of Prof. Is-haq Oloyede. She noted that his tenure has been characterized by technological advancements, financial transparency, integrity initiatives, staff welfare, and personnel development.
Joining Mrs. Akintola at the event were Mr. Oladele Daramola, Deputy Director of Zonal Matters, and Mr. Olanrewaju Apata, JAMB’s Oyo State Public Relations Officer (PRO).
