The Federal Ministry of Works has announced that it has fixed the Section 2 Kano-Maiduguri road, which was recently cut off by heavy rainfall and flooding.
The Ministry added that the heavy flooding had damaged the Sabon Gari axis of Section 2 of the Kano-Maiduguri road in Bauchi State, prompting the Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi, to take immediate action to bring relief to the people whose livelihoods were adversely affected by the devastating flood.
According to the Ministry, the flood disaster, caused by climate change, was expected to cause monumental hardship to the people of the affected area and to all users of the road.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday and made available to Newspot by the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr Uchenna Orji.
The statement reads in part: “In furtherance of the President’s mandate, the industrious Honourable Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi, visited the area on August 15, 2024, initiated emergency response processes, and implemented permanent solution measures to address the critical situation of the road.
“Today, the life-threatening problems faced by the people due to the destroyed road have been resolved as the Federal Ministry of Works has fixed the road and opened it for use on an emergency basis pending the final and permanent construction work.
“The road was opened for use on September 12, 2024, courtesy of the ingenuity of the Honourable Minister of Works.
“Thank you, Mr. President, for restoring hope to the good people of Bauchi State. The Federal Ministry of Works, under Sen. Umahi, is commended for always being up to the task.”
