The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has collaborated with F.C.I International also known as the Centre for Technical Development to launch a revalidation programme for aircraft marshallers aimed at curbing apron-related accidents during Christmas and beyond.
The Director of Human Resource at FAAN, Emiola Luqman, made this known in a statement to newsmen after a training session at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Monday.
Luqman said that the management of FAAN was making efforts to close all technical-related training gaps.
According to him, the move would prepare FAAN to provide safe and secure air transport support services during Christmas and beyond.
He added that the training and competent revalidation of over 200 aircraft marshallers from various airports in the federation has been carried out.
Luqman said that the development would enable the marshallers to perform their duties of providing safe guidance of aircraft during ground movement and taxiing as required by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority Advisory Circular NCAA-AC-ARD049 on Airside Safety Management.
Speaking, the Coordinator of the training and Managing Director of F.C.I International, Fortune Idu said the training had gone beyond marshalling signals.
Idu stated that the training included assessment of all apron-related work hazards, adding that it was designed to make signal men to be safer aircraft marshallers.
He added that it would ensure review of existing standard operating procedures and practices and introduction of a new logging system that would promote efficiency.
