A Nigerian gay rights activist identified as Michael Ighodaro is set to wed his Armenian-American partner, Jirair Ratevosian.
The New York-based man, who describes himself as the first African-born gay man living with HIV to co-lead a global organization, took to the microblogging platform X to share the news on Wednesday, October 4.
The public health expert shared a photo with his partner and revealed that they are getting married in five days.
He added that their wedding will spark a significant discourse in both of their countries, Nigeria and Armenia, where homosexuality is frowned upon.
He tweeted,
“In 5 days, I’ll say ‘I do’ to an amazing person, despite global love challenges. Grateful to soon call them my spouse. Our wedding will spark important conversations in our countries, we are determined to show love conquers all.”
