Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi says he’s looking forward to the difficult opposition the Super Eagles will provide for his team in their forthcoming international friendly.
The African champions will, on Friday, square up to the Eagles at the Worthersee Stadium in what will be the fourth encounter between both sides in the last four years.
In their last clash, Algeria defeated Nigeria 2-1 at the semi-finals of the AFCON 2019. Belmadi, however, yet rates the Eagles quite highly and believes Friday’s game will provide a tough test for his wards.
Speaking at Wednesday’s press conference in Austria, the 44-year-old gaffer said: “I was looking for matches that could put us in difficulty. Some might say we have to pick up back slowly, but I don’t see it like that, we have to take advantage of FIFA dates, there aren’t that many.”
“I opted for difficult matches because I believe that the progress of a team depends on that.”
“We could have opted very quickly against smaller teams but I had the requirement to obtain these two prestigious matches against Nigeria and Mexico.”
“Nigeria everyone knows, it is the 2nd (3rd, actually) best team in the FIFA / CAF ranking .“
The Eagles will take on Africa no. 2 Tunisia in another international friendly billed for the Jacques Lemans Arena four days after their Algeria clash.
Friday’s clash is to kick off by 7:30pm (Nigerian time).
