Niger liquor board to destroy alcohol worth over N20m for contravening law

The Niger State Liquor Licensing Board has completed plans to destroy alcoholic drinks worth over N20m confiscated from vendors for violating the liquor law in Suleja, Suleja local government area of the state.

The Secretary of the Board, Mallam Ibrahim Muhammad Bonu made this disclosure in Minna.

He explained that the items marked for destruction were seized as a result of contravening the liquor prohibition, sales and consumption law of Niger State.

Bonu urged liquor vendors in the state to ensure strict adherence to the rule and regulations of the operation of liquor sales warning,

“Any vendors caught violating liquor law or using underaged persons in their operation will have their premises sealed,” he warned.

He also advised the operators to abide by the time of operation and closing hours as stipulated in the bye-laws of Niger State Liquor Licensing Board or shall be sent out of the business and equally prosecuted.

The Secretary then warmed staff of the Board to discharge their duties in accordance with the liquor laws, warning, “any person found wanting in the discharge of his or her duty or found conniving with any vendor shall be made to face the full wrath of the law”.
