The Niger State Government has expressed concern over suspected landmines planted by terrorists in parts of Shiroro Local Government Area.

The Government also called on residents to avoid areas suspected of being planted with landmines by terrorists.

This precautionary measure, the government says, is necessary to prevent casualties until the military can safely clear the affected zones.

Speaking in Minna after the 2024 Base Socio-Cultural Activities (BASA) event at the 013 Quick Response Force of the Nigerian Air Force, the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Bello Abdullahi, emphasized the urgency of the situation.

“We are calling on residents, particularly those farming in the fringes of Basa, to exercise caution and restrict their movement. Until the military completes its clearance of suspected mines, it is unsafe to venture into these areas,” Abdullahi stated.

According to the commissioner, intelligence reports indicate that terrorists have begun planting bombs in the region as part of a growing threat to security.

Recall that on the morning of December 19, 2024, the Bassa community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State was shaken by a series of three bomb explosions.

The incident claimed three lives and left five others injured.
