The Niger State Government has signed a contract agreement for the construction of 556 kilometres of road across the state with a private consultancy firm, BENIJ Nigeria Limited, to provide consultancy services.
Governor Muhammad Umar Bago during the signing of the agreement at the Niger State Government Lodge, Abuja, said the move was in line with the urban renewal policy of his administration.
Lamenting the state of infrastructural deficit, particularly roads in the state, Bago explained: “My administration is poised to significantly turn around the situation for the good of the people. The roads when completed will attract investors and make business easy for them.”
According to him, engaging the services of the consultancy firm was to ensure quality control and value for money to be spent on the projects.
He disclosed that the 556km road project is the first phase as more road projects are expected to be carried out.
Speaking, the lead consultant at BENIJ Nigeria Limited, Olatunji Ajayi assured Niger State Government of its full commitment in offering the much needed expertise which will ensure quality is attained, adding that the firm will come up with detailed design of the projects within five weeks.
Also, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Hassan Etsu signed on behalf of the Niger State Government while Ajayi signed for the firm.
