Niger: Be agents of peace – Police urge NANS

The Niger State Commissioner of Police, Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, has advised students’ representatives, under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Joint Campus Council, Niger State axis, led by Ismail Muhammad Mubarak, to be agents of peace, change and progress in their various campuses.

Danmamman gave this advice during a courtesy visit by the executives of the association in Minna.

The Commissioner of Police, who congratulated the new executives, assured them of an open-door policy for cooperation, synergy, understanding and intervention on general issues affecting students in the state.

Danmamman also commended the student leaders and stated that the quality of leadership within the students is getting better, as suspicion and areas of friction between the students and the authority have drastically reduced.

“The government, on their part, are being more responsive and assuaging the suspicion of students and the citizenry. You should be an agent of peace, change and progress on your various campuses; play your part as a dutiful citizen of the country.

“I encourage you to partner with security agencies by raising the red flag where necessary to attract intervention against the enemy of the state for a peaceful environment, ” he stated.

Danmamman further explained: “This is the time for us all to engage all hands on deck for the security of life and property, as we rely on community partnership and understanding to remove unwanted people from our community. No one can provide protection more than what your vigilance can provide; be vigilant, courageous and call for intervention when necessary.”

Earlier, the chairman of the association said the purpose of the visit was to identify with the police command and seek mentorship and partnership.

He thanked the Commissioner of Police for the management of student affairs, protests and strikes in the state without any confrontation or inflicting of injury on any student.
