The National Coalition of NGOs and Civil Society Organizations in Nigeria, NCNCSON, has urged the Taraba State government and relevant authorities to urgently investigate the ongoing leadership crisis in the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Jalingo.

Making the appeal in a statement made available to journalists on Monday in Jalingo, the coalition stressed the need for the state government to take swift action to safeguard the institution’s credibility.

The coalition believes the reasons for the ongoing leadership tussle in the institution, is the the failure to adhere to retirement protocols, and non-compliance with standards set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, NMCN, and the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE,

Also highlighting allegations of mismanagement, irregularities in appointments, the coalition warned that if left unaddressed, the issues could lead to a deeper crisis within the institution.

Resolving the crisis, the coalition outlined a series of measures which include, implementing a fair and merit based process to appoint qualified leaders, strict compliance with civil service rules and regulatory standards for appointments and retirements.

“We urged the Taraba State government and relevant authorities to investigate these issues urgently and implement reforms to restore integrity to the college.

This is critical to upholding the governor’s vision of educational excellence and ensuring that the College of Nursing and Midwifery remains a beacon of hope for healthcare education in Nigeria,” the statement read.

NCNCSON reaffirmed its commitment to working with the government and stakeholders to promote accountability, transparency, and sustainable development within the education sector.
