The new Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olubenga Adepoju, has pledged to prioritize the safety, security of lives and property, curb cultism, oil theft and overall well-being of the people of Rivers State.
Speaking during his maiden press briefing at the command headquarters in Port Harcourt, Adewale-Adepoju assured residents of enhanced police visibility through intensified patrols across the state.
In his first official address as the 47th Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, he emphasized the importance of strengthening intelligence gathering and collaborating with traditional rulers and other community stakeholders to ensure the security of the populace.
Adewale-Adepoju also committed to fostering inter-agency collaboration and promoting community engagement.
He assured that officers under his command would maintain professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
The Commissioner of Police further warned of a zero-tolerance policy for corruption within the force, stressing that discipline would be strictly enforced.
He highlighted plans to strengthen the monitoring unit to ensure compliance with proper procedures and ethical conduct.
The CP said, “Under my watch, this command will have zero tolerance for corruption, effective discipline within the police ranks and hold officers accountable for any misconduct.
“We will curb cultism and youth restiveness, intensify efforts against cult-related activities and partner with youth and civil society to promote peace.
“Combating oil theft and environmental crimes, work with relevant agencies to dismantle criminal networks in the oil industry.”
Adewale-Adepoju also addressed concerns over police involvement in land grabbing which has become a very big concern in the state.
He pledged to end such practices, stating that any police participation in civil matters must involve the legal team to prevent the infringement of citizens’ rights.
