NEFGAD advocates collaborative approach to revamp Nigeria’s procurement systems

The Network for the Actualization of Social Growth and Viable Development (NEFGAD), a public procurement advocacy group, has called for joint efforts to improve Nigeria’s procurement systems.

NEFGAD, during a recent courtesy visit to the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) in Abuja, reiterated its commitment to fostering a transparent and efficient procurement process that benefits all Nigerians.

The group’s country Head, Mr Akingunola Omoniyi, who led the delegation, stated that the visit aimed to establish stronger ties with the new leadership of the BPP and discuss the expectations of Nigerians concerning the agency’s role in governance.

“We are here to strengthen our advocacy for improved procurement practices and to hear the vision of the new leadership,” Omoniyi said.

“It is essential to work together in addressing procurement challenges and ensuring these systems serve the public good effectively.”

Responding to the visit, the Director General of the BPP, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun shared his vision of implementing reforms to foster trust and efficiency.

“Our goal is to build a diligent system that delivers results transparently and ensures fairness,” Adedokun said.

“Every organ of government must align with the broader vision of good governance, and at BPP, we are committed to setting that standard.”

Adedokun detailed plans to digitize the Bureau’s operations, reduce procurement processing times to three weeks, and introduce a Price Intelligence System to combat over-invoicing.

He also announced initiatives to release procurement details promptly, enabling public tracking of projects and contractor accountability.

“We have a lot of changes to implement, which have been thoughtfully designed to support Mr President in achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“The responsibility cannot rest on Mr. President alone, every organ of government must align with this vision. At BPP, we fully understand this and are committed to ensuring the President’s success at all levels by making the Bureau more efficient and accountable,” Dr Adedokun said.
