Our correspondent reports that offices, commercial banks, and public institutions in Akwa Ibom remained under lock and key in observance of the strike.
Most of the commercial banks visited along Abak Road, Aka Road, even at the banking layout, Udoudoma, were shut, only the ATMs were opened for service.
The state secretariat was also shut down as the NLC used private cars and union buses to barricade the entrance.
University of Uyo was part of the strike as the town campus of the institution was shut down.
When questioned on his participation in the strike, former Chairman of Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), Prof Ashong Ashong, stated that as a member of the union, he was part of the strike.
“I am a unionist, and I am participating in the strike,” he said.
Reacting to the non-participation of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the strike, the Chairman said “I do not have any business with them, and they do not have any business with us”.
Though there was no protest, the strike continues till tomorrow and NLC said members would also gather at the secretariat to ensure full compliance.
