The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has stated that ensuring national security is a shared responsibility of all Nigerians.

He urged Nigerians to actively contribute by providing crucial information that can assist security agencies in their operations towards carrying out their professional engagements successfully.

Represented by the Chief of Defence Staff, Maj. Gen. Shuab Bashir, Gen. Musa made the statement on Saturday in Abuja while addressing attendees at the 48th Annual National Conference of the Muslim Elders Association of Nigeria.

The event was hosted by Muslim Elders Association of Nigeria, known for its commitment to promoting peace, fostering brotherhood, and enhancing leadership values, education, and humanitarian services.

CDS Musa emphasized the importance of collaboration between the general public and security agencies, emphasising that security challenges cannot be effectively tackled by security agencies alone.

According to him, “Security is everybody’s business; everyone must be involved. It should not be left to the security agencies alone. People must give us useful information.”

The representative of the Police Commissioner in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Uba Alkali, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that effective security was dependent on the collective effort of all citizens.

He urged all to work with the police to serve humanity, stressing that security was everyone’s responsibility.

Both officials underscored the critical role of community engagement and the sharing of intelligence in overcoming the security challenges faced by Nigeria today, highlighting the need for a united front, where both the public and security agencies work hand-in-hand to ensure a safer and more prosperous nation.
