The Nasarawa State Chapter of the Labour Party has suspended eleven of its officials for engaging in anti-party activities during the just-concluded governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.

This was contained in a press statement signed and made available to newsmen by the LP state Chairman, Alexander Ombugu, and the party’s Assistant Secretary, Ashime Benjamin, in Lafia on Wednesday.

The statement said the suspension was done in conjunction with the national body of the Labour party to curtail future occurrences of such behaviors among members of the party, adding that the suspended executive members included officials from both the state and local government levels.

He mentioned the names of the suspended party executives to include; State Secretary of the party, Dahiru Abubakar; Women Leader, Hajara Dalhatu; and Treasurer, Musa Doma.

Ombugu said, “With reference to a complain letter to the national body of LP dated 24/3/2023 on the misconduct of some party state and local government executive members and the response received.

“We wish to bring to your notice that the suspended members have gone contrary to the party’s constitution of Article 19 part ‘B’ and number 2 that stipulates disciplinary measure on anti-party that lead to embarrassment, contempt, and ridicule of the party.

“In the build up to the governorship election, our party governorship candidate, Joseph Ewuga, stepped down for the PDP governorship candidate, David Ombugadu.

“He informed the party and we communicated same to the national body of our great party but these executives of the party in Nasarawa State went ahead to endorse the governorship candidate of another political party without recourse to the Labour Party, that is why they are being suspended today.”

Ombugu added that a five – man committee have been constituted with two weeks time frame to investigate the suspended members’ activities, saying that if they are found guilty, disciplinary actions would be taken against them accordingly to the laws of the party.
