Like him or hate him, Samuel Ladoke Akintola was a genius in Yoruba Lexicon and a Yoruba patriot in his own right.
Ahmed Bola Tinubu, at his prime, is his protege in many profound ways, but not in his oratorical flourish in Yoruba Language in particular and his ability to express himself in English Language as a lawyer by profession.
The Bola Tinubu Nigeria has today is so severely limited in his vocabulary and language that he makes Buhari another poor speaker look and sound like an orator.
I just cannot help but compare him to Yemi Osinbajo the erudite and eloquent Professor of Law or to late Uncle Bola Ige the eloquent Cicero of Esa Oke of blessed memory.
Ahmed Bola Tinubu, as Senator and Governor of Lagos State, was far better off in his capacity to express himself in English or Yoruba language than he is today as President- Elect of Nigeria, sad to say.
I have watched him speak on too many occasions and I come away unimpressed with his ability to express himself be it in English or Yoruba, his native tongue like Akintola was able to do with effortless ease.
Bola Tinubu’s handlers have their job cut out for them. If they let him loose to speak the way he wants and they don’t coach and set boundaries for him, he is going to become a huge embarrassment to the country when he goes on international assignments and makes official state visits like going to address the United Nations or visiting his counterparts in other countries all over the world even when the speeches are written out for him by excellent speech writers like Osinbajo. He may still have problem reading it just like Buhari.
The President – Elect ought to find time to listen to all of the recorded tapes of the speeches of the first Nigerian Prime Minister Alhaji Tafawa Balewa, a Grade 2 teacher who did not attend the State University of Chicago or Government College Ibadan like Tinubu. I am not saying this to disrespect Tinubu.
I am saying it because it is the truth. The guy is now playing in the big league and he should be fully aware of his limitations is what I am concerned about in this write-up for his own sake and the interest and reputation of the whole country.
Tinubu should find time to go watch Balewa’s first speech to the joint session of American Congress during the tenure of President John F. Kennedy and his very short but impactful speech while responding to the welcome address of Lyndon Baines Johnson as Vice President of the United States at the Airport and before his motorcade drove Balewa to the White House to be received by President Kennedy himself.
It was simply unbelievable! Sir Winston Churchill could not have performed better in my opinion.
I am not at all sure, right now if Ahmed Bola Tinubu is ready for such prime time performance based on some of his appearances and speeches I have hitherto watched on the social media.
I believe Jagaban Akambi Omo Olodo Ide” needs a lot of coaching and preparations to get himself off to speed on that observation. I won’t lie to you. I chuckle in total disbelief and embarrassment as an American – trained and certified graduate when I heard him mistakenly or ignorantly pronounce in a video appearance the word “contestants” as “condensers”
I knew there and then that something has to be fundamentally wrong with his cognitive ability that he needs to acknowledge and seriously work on before he is sworn in as President.
I don’t want to see him ridiculed for being caught red- handed like that. I don’t know about you.
I rest my case.
