Muslims around the world are to celebrate Eid-El- Fitri on Monday 1 May 2022.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the Saudi Supreme Court stated that because the Shawwal crescent was not seen on Saturday, Ramadan will continue today 1 May 2022.
During the Islamic month of Ramadan, Muslims around the world fast from sunrise until sunset. The crescent moon’s appearance on Saturday would have signalled the conclusion of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal, the following month.
In Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has encouraged Nigerian Muslims to keep an eye out for the crescent moon on Saturday,
However Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has declared Monday (May 2, 2022) as the first day of Shawwal 1443AH in Nigeria
The UAE, Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait, and Bahrain have also announced that Eid al-Fitr would begin on May 2, according to the International Astronomical Center, as reported by AlArabiya news network.
The end of Ramadan, which lasts 29 or 30 days depending on when the crescent moon is viewed, is marked by Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
Muslims use a lunar calendar with 12 months in a year that lasts 354 or 355 days.
