The traditional ruler of Obosi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Chidubem Iweka III, has decried the increasing rate of cult-related killings in the community.
Iweka also pointed out that cultists murdered the President General of the Community, Ike Okolo, on January 2, 2023.
The monarch was reacting to the killing of Okolo, who was shot dead in the community by some yet-to-be-identified assailants, at a petrol station, at about 8pm on Monday.
He said himself, his cabinet members, and other law abiding citizens of Obosi Ancient Kingdom knew the identities of the notorious cultists in the community.
The Obosi is one community that has been battling with cult related clashes, a development that has led to a series of killings and panic around the community.
Speaking to journalists late on Wednesday, Igwe Iweka, lamented that the killing of the community leader created severe tension in the area for two consecutive days.
The monarch noted that the activities of the cultists have become too inexplicable that law abiding citizens no longer sleep with their two eyes closed, pointing out that they killed and maimed people almost on a daily basis.
He, however, revealed that they have submitted the names of the “rampaging” cultists to law enforcement agencies for arrest, questioning, and possibly halting of their nefarious activities in the area.
He appealed to the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and heads of security agencies in the state, including the police, Department of State Services, Army, Navy to come to their rescue before “these deadly cultists wipe out the entire citizenry, particularly now that the royal cabinet in conjunction with the town union have submitted the names of the bandits to the enforcement agencies”.
When contacted further on the killing of the community leader, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, told our correspondent via SMS that the assassins were yet to be arrested, adding that investigations were ongoing.
