Salah was not in the starting XI for the Reds as they travelled to Austria to take on LASK, but he came off the bench and scored the final goal of the game in a 3-1 win.
That was the 31-year-old’s 189th goal for the club, remarkably, 42 of which have come in major European competition – either the Champions League or Europa League.
No player has scored more goals in Europe for an English club than Salah, but one man has scored as many, with Henry scoring 42 times for the Gunners in major European competition.
With Thursday night the first match of a Europa League campaign for Liverpool it is surely only a matter of days or weeks until Salah moves ahead of the legendary Frenchman on that score.
There was also a piece of history for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on Thursday night as he became the first manager in the club’s history to record 50 wins in European competition.
‘Let me say it like this, if I have still 50 after the group stage then I’m still the most successful Liverpool manager [in this regard] and everybody will hate the fact!’ Klopp said.
‘[It’s] nice. We played quite a lot of games in Europe. It’s good that we won that many, we qualified frequently for finals so of course we should have won games.
‘It’s great but probably it’s because in European competition there are just much more games than in the past. I’m pretty sure that’s it.’
