Salah scored in a 2-0 win over Napoli on Tuesday night, starting on the right flank in a 4-3-3, where he has enjoyed a huge amount of success with the Reds in recent years.
With the exit of Sadio Mane and arrival of Darwin Nunez over the summer, along with injuries to the likes of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz and a general lack of form, Jurgen Klopp has mixed things up a bit this season and Salah has not always been in his traditional role.
The Egyptian says he will happily take up any role in the side he is given, but thinks it is clear where he has had most success at Liverpool and where he feels most comfortable to produce his best performances.
‘It’s not my job, it’s the gaffer’s job,’ Salah told BT Sport when questioned about the more familiar formation against Napoli.
‘Any position that makes me comfortable, I’m happy about it, but I’ve played in the position for five, six years, I have to say yes, that position is the best for me.
‘But I’m not the manager, the manager decides the tactics and, as a player, you have to follow the leader.’
Salah was delighted with the result on Tuesday at Anfield, with Napoli in superb form both in Serie A and the Champions League so far this season.
Luciano Spalletti’s side had gone 21 matches without defeat before their trip to Anfield.
‘To win against one of the best teams in the world and one of the best coaches in the world – it’s always a good feeling, but we just need to carry on,’ he said. ‘It’s a good result for us. Hopefully it gives us more confidence and [we] just now need to focus on the cup and in the league and carry on.’
