Mikel Arteta says he is very keen to help Jack Wilshere secure a footballing future, but is dismissive of the suggestion that the former Arsenal man could pull on the shirt once again.

Wilshere is without a club at the moment after leaving Bournemouth at the end of last season and is hunting down a new deal wherever he can find one.

The England international is in discussions over training at his former club Arsenal, with the Gunners hoping to help him get back into football at just 29-years-old.

Arteta says Wilshere is greatly admired at the Emirates and he, and the club, will do everything they can to assist him.

‘We are in conversations with Jack to understand as well what he needs, what he’s looking for,’ Arteta said of the situation with Wilshere.

‘It’s a person and a player that ahs a huge admiration around everybody. Not just the players and fans, but all the staff around here.

‘We are willing to help him as much as we possibly can, he knows that and that’s the situation.’

However, pushed on whether this could see Wilshere earn himself a contract at Arsenal, Arteta laughed and dismissed the possibility.

‘I wouldn’t take it that for,’ he said with a smile. ‘What I’m saying is we’re in conversations with him to understand what he needs, how we can help him and that’s it.’

Arteta had previously said that the door was open for Wilshere, his former teammate at Arsenal, to come and ask for help, something that Wilshere said he was planning to do.

‘I really enjoyed playing with him, sharing a dressing room with him. To hear him come out and say the door is always open is nice,’ Wilshere told Sky Sports earlier this week.

‘I think that it can only help me. As you said, being a round good players, training with world-class players and, as well, just being in a team environment is something that I am interested in.

‘I am sure that I will have a conversation with someone at the club over the next couple of days.’
