Maya Le Tissier admitted her first call-up for England took her by surprise but says now she is in the squad she is determined she will be there to stay.
Sarina Wiegman’s European champions first face a Japan outfit ranked 11th in the world on Friday as they continue to prepare for next year’s World Cup.
‘(It’s) unbelievable. I’m so happy to be here, I was expecting to be meeting up with the Under-23s,’ said the Guernsey-born player.
‘I wasn’t expecting to get the call-up at all, especially with the girls having won the Euros and having such a strong squad. With the players that are here, I’m like, “wow, I can’t believe I’m in the same room as you”.
‘But it’s been my goal to get into the seniors. There’s a long way to go but I want to stay in the squad and that’s difficult with all the players we have.’
Injury has ruled out Lauren Hemp and Jordan Nobbs, with Everton defender Gabby George drafted in as cover.
